Miguel Abras

Returning to the city after playing a leading role in the tremendous concert that started off OUT.FEST 2019 along with Gabriel Ferrandini and the Camerata Musical do Barreiro, the ‘gutter poet’ is back to present his highly personal songs armed with his voice and an acoustic guitar (with backing tracks and video projections). We foresee hearing passionate confessions shaped by an existential eschatology, which is the same as saying that you can sing about loving life from a wide variety of perspectives.

10 000 Russos

True to their admiration for Mark E. Smith and The Fall (as well as Neu! or Suicide), 10 000 Russos, from Porto, are perhaps one of the most hardworking bands in the Portuguese music scene, even if their sphere of action goes well beyond this rectangle we live in. Fresh out of a Mexican tour started on the latter half of this year, they embarked on a series of no more no less than 50 concerts all over Europe to promote their incredible new LP “Kompromat” before we challenged them to – finally! – be a part of OUT.RA’s regular music programming.

The record, like the band’s music, is one of the rare instances when a formula without any apparent secrets generates results that can only come from alchemy or black magic – the songs are, all of them, perfect trips that meld together light and dark, perpetual motion and ecstatic trance. The drumming is almost always martial, machine-like, danceable, the bass takes hold as a propelling serpent, the guitar is a permanent ray of light attempting to pierce through the smog and transcend and the voice, ever on the threshold of intelligibility, resonates with the urgency of those speaking the necessary truths. 2019 may be almost over, but don’t write down your list of the best concerts you’ve seen in Barreiro just yet.
