2020 Creation Grant: Three projects selected in response to these exceptional times

Due to the current status of the local artistic community, OUT.RA - Associação Cultural felt the need to provide our support to creatives and their creations in a more significant manner and have thus made the decision to, exceptionally, award three projects with our Local Creation Grant for 2020.

This annual grant has been awarded since 2016 to musicians and audiovisual artists residing in Barreiro and the surrounding urban areas in order to create and present original works. This year, each of the selected projects will be supported with 1000€ in order to achieve its aims and host at least one public presentation (when possible) of the work developed.

The projects selected cover a wide range of audio and visual creations and their intersection: the cross between sound experimentation and dance proposed by Sara Zita Correia and Marta Ramos, the multi-channel video installation devised by Camila Vale and the composition of three satellite-pieces to a contemporary opera by João Quinteiro.

Throughout the following months we'll be revealing more details regarding the selected projects and their journey towards completion.

 

Sara Zita Correia & Marta Ramos


Marta Ramos (born in 1990) is a graphic designer, with degrees in Communication Design (ESAD Matosinhos) and in Performance (Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto). Sara Zita Correia holds a degree in Dance (Escola Superior de Dança de Lisboa).

Camila Vale

Born in 1993 in Viana do Castelo and a resident in Barreiro since 2017, Camila Vale is a director and cinema producer, holding a degree in Visual Arts, Cinema (AR.CO Lisbon) and Fiction Writing (Universidade Lusófona).

João Quinteiro

Born in Lisbon in 1984 and a long-term resident in Baixa da Banheira, João Quinteiro is a Composition graduate from the University of Aveiro) and a Master in Philosophy (FCSH - Universidade Nova de Lisboa)

OUT.RA creation grant for 2019: the winner

Following the Open Call we launched at the beginning of the year, we're glad to announce the winner of OUT.RA's artistic creation grant for 2019.
 

This year we'll support the production and release of a new album by Lisbon-born musician Rafael Ayres aka Van Ayres, an eclectic artist exploring connections between sound, body and performance living in Barreiro since 2017.

The public presentation of the developed work will happen by the end of the year.

SE UMA ÁRVORE CAIR: Performance

Dando uso à biblioteca de sons e imagens que os bolseiros OUT.RA 2018 (João Antunes, João Pinheiro e Helder Menor) recolheram na sua jornada pelo interior do país, Se Uma Árvore Cair é uma performance audiovisual onde as memórias visuais e auditivas são o mote para uma viagem sónica, dimensionada à medida da pequena grande viagem que os três fizeram no verão de 2018.

Com um espírito experimentalista e uma abordagem diferente de todos os projetos artísticos em que até agora estiveram envolvidos, Se Uma Árvore Cair é ao mesmo tempo uma celebração do interior deserto e envelhecido do nosso país e da amizade que levou os autores a embarcarem nesta viagem de re-descoberta das suas origens.

Bolsa de Criação OUT.RA 2018 – Candidaturas Abertas

Na sequência das Bolsas de Criação atribuídas aos artistas locais Tiago Sousa (2016) e José Bica (2017), a OUT.RA – Associação Cultural aceita, a partir deste momento, candidaturas de jovens artistas locais para o desenvolvimento de trabalho artístico relacionado com Música / Som / Artes Sonoras durante o ano de 2018.
 
The criteria considered in selecting a project for this grant are as follows:
  • Residência no Concelho do Barreiro ou áreas urbanas limítrofes (Baixa da Banheira, Vale da Amoreira);
  • Age between 18 and 35 years old;
  • Education (higher or technical) in artistic fields, particularly in Music / Sound Art / Multimedia / Ethnomusicology, or alternatively relevant work already developed in Music / Sound Art which reveals an interest in seeking new solutions and an idiosyncratic artistic personality;
  • Awareness of the work developed by OUT.RA (OUT.FEST, regular programming, sound documentation, etc) and degree of project fit with said work;
  • Qualidade conceptual do projecto criativo, grau de maturidade apresentado para o seu desenvolvimento, exequibilidade dos meios necessários aos espectáculos para sua apresentação.
 
O trabalho a desenvolver pelo(a) bolseiro(a) deve decorrer entre Maio e Dezembro de 2018, e contemplar pelo menos um momento de apresentação pública.
 
A bolsa a atribuir tem o valor de 800€.
