Clothilde

An eagerly awaited return to Barreiro (after a debut at OUT.FEST 2018 and a return to the festival the very next year, for a collaborative work with Keith Fullerton Whitman, André Gonçalves and Simão Simões) of this architect of some of the most beautiful electronic sonic adventures made in Portugal: Sofia Mestre aka Clothilde.

A relatively late arrival to musical composition and performance, after following a path of exploration of the homemade modular electronics built by the Lisbon musician known as HOBO, Sofia Mestre’s work brings with it (perhaps precisely because there’s a life experience behind these poems-sonic trips) a profoundly personal and emotional baggage that hard to find in the ever-growing community of musicians who are a part of a true explosion in the use of modular synthesizers throughout the world.

It’s not by chance that we mention architecture here - the way in which these compositions are built, their clarity, fluidity and elegance, is a reflection of an art of patiently building up music which forces us into deep, demanding listening sessions which are ultimately, incredibly rewarding.

João Silva

Born in Barreiro, João Silva is a trumpet player, teacher and investigator who represents, in its plenitude, the renovation and vitality of improvised music in Portugal. Despite his classical background, he has, over the years, developed both an interest and an interesting path through music for trumpet and electronics which, together with his eager practice with several important names in Portuguese free music (for instance, we had the pleasure of hosting him as part of an evening dedicated to the essential Creative Sources label), makes him one of the artists to watch out for today and in the future.
