DUMA

Duma are a Kenyan duo which, despite being associated with the Ugandan label Nyege Nyege (which has been a key part of a true new African musical vanguard over the last few years, especially due to the unfathomable and new dance music they bring to the fore), bring with them a whole new ballet which, more often than not, we don’t even know how to dance to. In their music, the duo’s metal background is immediately evident - starting off with beats and sounds you would associate with Ministry, on first glance, then throwing screams and guttural vocals at us of the purest grindcore variety, disorienting us with rhythmic maps worth of Aphex Twin, then tossing us to the floor with the weight of Sunn O))). Many names and references here, sure, but what’s truly noteworthy here is the experience of the new, the extreme, the extremely new. A concert we’ll remember for years and years to come.

CAVERNÂNCIA

An absolute revelation of late 2021, this solo project of Barreiro’s own Pedro Roque - photographer, musician and music lover, plus trailblazer within heavy music who has, since the release of “Em ciano” in September, started collecting concerts, releases, collaborations and compliments - many and deserved - inside and outside the country. Every time you hear him there’s a clear sense of a path which, although in its beginnings, already foresees distant landings and landscapes, deep and inhospitable ones; cloudy, rainy, stormy music, created from almost banal recordings of daily living, like a cavern serving as a portal to every possible state of the world.
